1980s architectural culture

The latest issue of SCHÖNER WOHNEN Switzerland has been on news-stands since mid-October. This issue takes a close look at two renovation projects that could not be more different.

In the words of Stefan Westmeyer: “Standard concepts rarely work. You have to look at each building individually.”

And Westmeyer – a product designer, interior architect and the owner of Westmeyer Design Werk – knows the business. Nevertheless, he concedes, “We knew [the rehabilitation and renovation of the building] was going to be a serious undertaking”. Still, his spirits remain high .

Anne tu Quoc also took on the project of renovating a property that was past its prime. “I like change – making something out of the old,” the businesswoman says. And she did so for herself and her family with real-life budgetary restrictions.

Two on-site visits, two buildings from the 1980s and two very different paths to making homes fit for today’s needs.
Building in an existing structure is a huge opportunity.
