Design & ecology

Werner Baumhakl keenly observes developments in the furniture industry; he also does his part in shaping it. A conversation about the importance of ecology, values-based collaborations and his latest design: “Gin”.

“The assignment was to develop an armchair that engaged with materials and could be combined with other products made by the Swiss upholstery specialist WeibelWeibel. It had to have a strong character and be sustainably manufactured. How would all that be possible today? We performed a case study and now, two years later, we can present the result: “Gin”. This armchair embodies everything we learned about wood construction, design for disassembly, climate-neutral production and manufacturing technology,” Werner Baumhakl explains.
