Ringel - the founder and the brand

We saved the good news for spring. Stephanie Ringel Media, founded in 2013, has given itself a new face: with a revamped corporate design and brand new website. To be completely honest, I had discarded the idea of being self-employed for some time.

by Stephanie Ringel

My parents had a mid-sized construction company, a classic SME with over 30 employees, and the company was their life. Whatever was happening at work was conversation at the dinner table, after the end of the day and on weekends. As the oldest of three children, I had soaked up so much entrepreneurial energy that I knew: once I graduated I would find an employer. My plan was to get a degree and secure a stable job with regular working hours. That is, insofar as a journalist can have regular work hours. So when Gruner+Jahr asked me in early summer 2013 if I wanted to take over the editorial management of the magazine Schöner Wohnen Switzerland, I was torn at first. Because the condition for the job was, you guessed it: self-employment.

I slept on it and the next day I knew: I was going to go for it. Thus began my adventure as a business owner. So much came naturally to me – for that I am truly grateful to my family. And also to my first clients: Dr. Ellen Ringier, Thomas Schlickenrieder, Monika Vögele, Bettina Billerbeck and Hans Otto.

From print to real-time communication

In the past 10 years, the media landscape has changed at an astounding pace. And as Stephanie Ringel Media, we have played a role in shaping that change. Which has not always been easy, since data-driven journalism pervades and influences our lives so quickly.

Stephanie Ringel and her flexible team started as magazine makers driven by constructive journalism. As objects, magazines have a special smell and texture, they have a beginning and end, they give us company, they are pleasing to the eye. Worthwhile reading that makes a lasting impact.

Our clients entrusted us with their publications, which we had the privilege of producing for them. Since an increasing number of companies and organizations have become publishers themselves, we also integrate our journalistic craft, entrepreneurial spirit and strategic thinking into our corporate communication work.

Today we are a successful boutique agency. We specialize in ultra-specific solutions for clients, meaningful concepts and collaborations, generating relevant topics and boosting visibility – whether for media brands, corporations or institutions.

Ingredients for success

In our opinion, good storytelling has a few important ingredients that we are careful to cultivate: a healthy amount of curiosity, a good understanding of the times, an ability to develop team intelligence, precise craftsmanship and a proper use of technology – always measuring those ingredients in line with the target group.
As we think about my company on its 10-year anniversary, what have I learned as a person? We turned it into a team project and worked together on the relaunch in the same way we go about achieving all our tasks: with enthusiasm, a sense of humor, respect for each other’s skills and a helping of stamina when things get tough (and it always does J). Questioning yourself in your day-to-day work is a good exercise – and it fosters resilience.

A special thanks to Christian Pruitt, Alena Fabia Schwarz, Katharina Horber, Janine Hartmann, Jocelyn Polen, Mirjam Kluka, Egzona Acifi, Remo Caminada and Melinda Por for all your hard work on the Ringel relaunch.
